On July 22, 2020, Her Power! wrote an open letter supporting Grace, who was a 15 year-old girl with disabilities that was incarcerated after a judge ruled that she had violated her probation by not completing her online coursework when her school moved to remote learning. As part of the #FreeGrace Campaign, Grace received letters from across the globe.

In many ways, Myrtle was years ahead of her time. As a woman with a disability, she was raised in a time in which no one even thought about disability as part of human diversity, much less as anything outside of ‘wheelchairs’ and ‘crutches.’ However, every year, without fail, Myrtle came for ‘Sunday Fun Day’ at Her Power!

Dear Grace,
From all of us who have lived in a world that did not accommodate our disability, in a society that is not accepting of the skin we live in and for all of the times we have been misunderstood, we want you to know that we see you and we support you.
While the country has been grappling with both racial injustice and a national pandemic, it appears that you are directly facing the racism and ableism on an individual scale that the country needs to solve on a national level.
