Women

Women’s Programs

Women with disabilities face multiple, compounded forms of discrimination and stereotyping, which makes them more vulnerable to gender violence and creates cascades of challenges throughout their lifetime. While women with disabilities face oppression, we also acknowledge the pride we can have in our own disabilities and reject messages of shame and stigma. LETA Solutions’ programs for women create space to name oppression, reject shame, and explore the resistance and power of disability identity and community.

Support for Women Navigating Inclusion & Belonging

We work directly with women with disabilities and with the organizations that serve them on inclusion, belonging, assistive technology, and the practical technical support that makes full participation possible. Whether you’re looking to join a program, community, or workplace and aren’t sure how to talk about what you need, we can help you think through what inclusion looks like for you, what questions to ask, and how to describe the supports that would help you show up fully.

Her Power! Retreat for Leaders, Mentors & Changemakers

A multi-day retreat-style training for women with disabilities (ages 18+) who mentor and support teen and middle school girls. Participants experience the core Her Power! curriculum firsthand while building their own leadership voice. This training is valuable for any organization running a girls’ or women’s program — not just Her Power!.

Her Power’s definition of women- and girl-inclusive programs includes cis-women, trans-women, femme/feminine-identifying genderqueer, and non-binary folks.

Core Topics

  • Disability Pride — exploring and celebrating our identities as women with disabilities
  • Media Literacy — analyzing how disability is portrayed and challenging stereotypes
  • Leadership Development — building our own leadership skills while learning to foster them in teens
  • Disability History — understanding our heritage and the disability rights movement
  • Community Building — creating authentic connections among women leaders with disabilities
  • Teen Mentorship Strategies — practical tools for supporting girls with disabilities ages 11–18

Format

Previously offered as a three-day immersive retreat at Camp Fish Tales in Michigan, followed by five two-hour Zoom training sessions throughout the year that deepen personal growth and build practical mentorship skills. The program can be adapted to your timeline — as a multi-day retreat, a series of shorter sessions, or a custom format for your organization. Retreat-style delivery typically includes shared lodging, all meals, and accessible accommodations based on participant needs.

What Participants Have Said

Past participants describe the retreat as transformative — leaving with deeper self-awareness, stronger disability pride, and lasting connections to a community of women changemakers. The experience is equally about personal growth and preparation to support the next generation.

Owning Our Place at the Table: Women’s Board Leadership Program

A five-month leadership program for women with disabilities (ages 20–35) interested in serving on boards of directors of nonprofit organizations. There are many ways to share your knowledge and take on leadership roles in your community — one powerful way is to serve on a board.

This program is designed for women who have not yet served on a board, as well as women who have served but felt lost in the process or felt like their voice wasn’t being heard. Participants learn how to step into board service, develop their leadership voice, build relationships with mentors, and take their place at the decision-making table.

Format

The program has been delivered over five months with a combination of group learning sessions, individual mentor check-ins, and cohort discussions. It can be adapted for your organization’s timeline and cohort size.
